Here we are in beautiful Sao Roque, a small town on Pico Island in the Azores (about 900 miles west of Portugal). We’ve been thrust into Azorean culture in just a few days, having arrived during the city’s annual Festa celebration. We will be vacationing here for the next 4 weeks!

Life on Pico Island is simple. It’s a refreshing change from the fast-paced, over-scheduled life we live on a daily basis back in Colorado. There are no chain hotels, no fancy restaurants, no crazy tourist attractions, no homework and no busy weekend sports schedules. It’s as if we have stepped back in time. Our simple beach cottage is spacious enough for our entire family, yet without the modern conveniences we are used to in Colorado (no tv, microwave, dishwasher or dryer). And quite honestly, we are loving every minute!
We have some close friends living on the island – Griff (a buddy of Jim’s from his bachelor days), Tricia and their two kids Guerin (7) and Teah (3). They have taken on the role of tour guide and translator and are helping us experience every aspect of this beautiful island.
Finding a simple way to share our photos and stories with our close friends and family is another challenge. So, I am going to give this blog a try and hope it will enable you to enjoy our family adventure with us!
